Photos - Ming tomb: Sacrificial Hall

After passing through the three gates to enter the tomb area, you approach an area where the Sacrificial Hall used to stand - the largest wooden building in China. It housed a stele engraved with 4 Chinese characters celebrating the Emperor's rule. The building was destroyed in 1853, and was replace with a much smaller building.

You can see the outline of the large building in these pictures, including the bases of some of the 56 gigantic pillars that were used to hold up the building.
